Oak Island |

| The outline of Oak Island to
the right is marked with the trail system that radiates out from the dock.
What the outline can't show of this four mile long island is its height. At 1080 feet, Oak rises high above the rest of the Apostles, its steep bluffs offering a far different view to the sailor than the other islands. Hikers can find sign of 12,000 year old sand beaches two hundred feet up on Oak - along with great vistas of the rest of the Apostles and the open lake. |
|
| At the SE end of Oak is a
sand beach which is a popular stop for campers and for power boats looking for a
lunch stop. Given fair conditions, there is good sand bottom for an anchor all the way from the dock to the beach. Other opportunities for anchoring can be found where narrow sand beaches are seen, and on the NE corner of the island. |

Island it is just three miles to Basswood Island and the West Channel. We've returned to the starting point of this on-line sailing cruise of the Apostle Islands. Hope you had a great time and will come to the Apostle Islands soon to enjoy the real thing. It has been good to have you aboard! |
