Winter in Bayfield seemed never-ending.

The last snow storm of the season came in mid April.

And there were more than a few four letter words uttered by residents to welcome the event!

The ferry to Madeline Island remained ice bound for months rather than a few weeks.

It was the longest ice cave visiting season in memory.

Spring boat work is more than a month later than normal.

But then the slow melt started.

One evening the bears robbed the bird feeders, and in the morning there were flowers to photo, and one could be confident that Spring had sprung.

E. B. White wrote "I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority."

There are two web cams here. A great site!

Bayfield Harbor Dock Repair

All through the Winter a crew was busy rebuilding the Bayfield city dock. By the forth week of April cement was flowing into place.

No visit to Our Little Town is complete without a stroll on the dock with an ice cream cone in hand on a warm July day.

If you heed the advice of your Innkeepers at Sailor's Solace Cottages your visit to the Islands with the Apostle Islands Cruise Service will depart from this dock.

Big Top Chautauqua

Of course Sailor's Solace Innkeepers believe no visit to Bayfield is complete without attending a show at the Big Blue/Grey Tent. And the BTC is part of the Sailor's Solace Discount Program.

The Big Top 2008 season is complete. You may view and print a poster of the Big Top 2008 season here:

You only had to read the first section of this newsletter to understand that in Bayfield we are happy to see Springs' arrival.

And believe it or not we are equally happy to see a throng of visitors show up.

We welcome both Spring and visitors with a bunch of happenings.
