Greetings from Bayfield, WI !

The nearby Apostle Islands are presently free from visitors for a few more months.

A frozen County road permits car traffic to and from Madeline Island.

Lake effect snow continues to add considerable ground cover at least once a week.

The most common sounds are the squeak of tire crushed snow and snow blowers in the ever narrowing driveways.

And Spring is only hinted at by the growing length of sunlight and reducing of darkness.

But the increase in phone calls and Emails from new and past guests yields a different message - the Season is near, and with it a sparkling blue Lake dotted with watercraft, green on every tree, ferns springing from the forest floor, lupines everywhere,    and music and laughter from a blue/grey tent resting where skiers now play.

Bring the Season on. We are ready for it!

Big Top Chautauqua

If you have stayed at Sailor's Solace Cottages during "Big Top Chautauqua Season" you will know that the Innkeepers are considerably involved with the BTC - call the BTC Office for tickets and Marlyce is likely to find just the seats you are looking for, and when you attend a show the House Manager (tall, going bald, wearing a red vest) will be Lew, making sure everything in front of the stage is going as it should.

The Big Top is one of three reasons we chose to take active retirement here.

We believe no visit to Bayfield is complete without attending a show at the Big Blue/Grey Tent. And the BTC is part of the Sailor's Solace Discount Program.

To view the entertainment coming to Big Top Chautauqua, simply click on this line, and be sure to join their mailing list.

The BTC also has My Space and You Tube sites well worth a visit.

When Don Pavel died unexpectedly on January 30, the BTC Family lost a long-time bandleader, a lead guitarist, and a dear friend. Here are some of the ways we sought to remember his life.

Apostle Islands Cruise Service

AICS has their 2008 season schedule on their web site.

Already taken one of their cruises on the Island Princess or the Ashland Bay Express? Think you've been there, done that?

Fact is that if you haven't stepped off the boat, you can't really say you have experienced the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

So consider the Raspberry Islands Keepers Tour to visit the newly refurbished Raspberry Lighthouse Station. Or visit Stockton Island on the Stockton Island Shuttle. Or camp and hike the highest of the Apostles on Oak Island.

Bayfield Chamber News & Events

The 2008 Bayfield And The Apostle Islands Visitors Guide - "where the water meets the soul" is available.

Go here to request copy.

Every reason to visit the area, every event, for every season, can be found within.

A long over due realization - in the form of a map - that the Apostle Islands are nearby is an encouraging sign

Of course when you make your reservation at Sailor's Solace Cottages we will send you a copy - along with a bunch of other information.
