Like its' near neighbor,
Basswood Island, Hermit Island is one of those neat little islands that are just the right size to be a day-trip destination from Bayfield. |

| There is no dock at Hermit,
but there are sandy beaches for a powerboat to pull up on, and good sand bottoms at
several places to to drop the hook. Hermit has the remains of a large quarry, wave pounded rocks, was once platted for development, has a farm site, and a very fascinating history, because there really was a hermit of Hermit Island. |

| Few sailors spend much time
around Hermit Island, mostly because they are headed out somewhere else, which is just
fine with those of us who enjoy having it ourselves more often than not.
If you need to go elsewhere, just do the click thing to a link below. But if you stay aboard, I'll let you handle the tiller - steering a schooner on a wing & wing run is great fun and I'd hate to have you miss it! |
