Far too often I've seen a first time strip-built boat builder rush out for some red cedar boards, get those suckers ripped, and wow a few days later he's got her stripped, and the glass is on and he's standing there admiring the job.

Then he comes out the next day, and says to himself, "I sure wish I'd put a strip or two of walnut about four strips down from the sheer."

That particular moment of intense regret can be avoided completely by simply saying to yourself, "what I really want is" and making at least a mental list. A written list is better because it helps you to think about the steps to get there.

There is a wealth of innovative ideas within those links I gave you in the last chapter.

I urge you to go back to those links. Invest a couple hours on the internet enjoying how others have done their hulls and make some notes.

Then you may want to consider making a small version of the hull you intend to build. Check out Small Strippers for step-by-step instructions on building a model stripper.

The next step in our project is Building The Strongback.
